Coal load in East Siberia falls 13.4% in Jan, petroleum product load grows 16.6% - Russian Railways

IRKUTSK. Feb 4 (Interfax) - Coal loading on the East Siberian Railway, a branch of Russian Railways (RZD), fell 13.4% year-on-year in January 2025 to 2.1 million tonnes, the railway's press service said.

However, loading of oil and petroleum products grew 16.6% to 800,400 tonnes. Loading of iron and manganese ore grew 1.5-fold to 360,000 tonnes.

Loading of timber cargo fell 2.2% in the previous month to 178,200 tonnes, loading of industrial raw materials fell 16.1% to 122,100 tonnes, construction cargo fell 11.8% to 93,000 tonnes and loading of chemicals and soda fell 7.4% to 35,000 tonnes.

Total load on the East Siberian Railway in January grew 1% to 4.5 million tonnes.

The East Siberian Railway runs through the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and partly through Trans-Baikal Territory and Yakutia.
