USAID office in Ukraine suspends financing of projects - Ukrainian media

MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax) - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ukraine has been instructed to suspend funding for all projects in accordance with the U.S. Department of State's order to halt aid programs to other countries for 90 days, Ukrainian media said, citing Suspilne TV.

An employee of the USAID office in Kiev said the agency had no detailed guidelines on how to implement the order and whether any exceptions would apply.

The USAID press service said, for its part, it had redirected the Suspilne inquiry to the U.S. Department of State.

In Ukraine, USAID supports a number of programs, including repairs of the critical power network.

According to Suspilne, Ukrainian organizations are receiving letters, which say they have to suspend operations financed by USAID or organizations dependent on U.S. funding.
