Kazakhstan plans to extend ban on scrap metal exports for another six months
ASTANA. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's Industry and Construction Ministry plans to extend the ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals for another six months, the ministry said in a statement.
The corresponding draft order was published on the ministry's website on January 23. It will go into effect 10 calendar days after the day of its first official publication.
The ban will also apply to the export of used pipes, rails, railway track elements and rolling stock.
The ban is necessary to supply the local metal makers with a sufficient volume of feedstock, for the processing of secondary metals allows Kazakhstan to increase the production of high value-added products, to reduce an adverse impact on the environment and to lower energy consumption.
The ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals out of the republic has been in effect since May 2023.
