Putin, Xi discuss energy cooperation, implementation of large joint projects - Kremlin aide
MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Russia and China are considering an expansion of bilateral energy cooperation, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said.
"It was noted in connection with energy cooperation that Russia is a leading supplier of energy to China and that it ranks first in terms of oil and pipeline gas. The implementation of other large joint energy projects was discussed, and it was said that construction of the Far Eastern gas pipeline was on schedule and new initiatives, for instance, Power of Siberia 2, were being discussed," Ushakov said at a press briefing following virtual talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart.
Two reactor units are under construction at Chinese nuclear power plants by Russian design, Ushakov said.
"The heads of state underlined the need for further improvement of transport connectivity, upgrade of border infrastructure and checkpoints, and increased cargo transportation between our states. They agreed to continue cooperation aimed to unlock the potential of the Northern Sea Route," he said.
