Early voting to start in Belarusian presidential election on Jan 21
MINSK. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Early voting is starting in the Belarusian presidential election on Tuesday, the country's Central Elections Commission (CEC) said.
"Early voting in the election of the president of the Republic of Belarus is starting in Belarus today. Polling stations will be open from noon to 7:00 p.m.," the CEC press service said.
The presidential election is scheduled for January 26. Five candidates are vying for the post. These are incumbent Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, parliament member, Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Oleg Gaidukevich, Republican Party of Labor and Justice Chairman Alexander Khizhnyak, former parliament member, 2020 presidential candidate Anna Kanopatskaya, and Belarusian Communist Party Central Committee First Secretary Sergei Syrankov.
Lukashenko, who has been in office since 1994, is running for the seventh presidential term.
