UK allots 40 mln pounds to Ukraine for economic development, 100 mln pounds for humanitarian needs

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - The British Foreign Office has announced the allocation of 100 million pounds for Ukrainian humanitarian needs in addition to 40 million to support the Ukrainian economy.

"UK support to Ukraine continues: 100 mln pounds lifesaving humanitarian funding, including for UNOCHA, Red Cross Ukraine, 40 mln pounds to support the economy, unlocking millions in private lending to increase growth and trade," Ukrainian media cited the Foreign Office's post on a social network.

It also said the UK and Ukraine signed a historic 100-Year Partnership.

The British government said earlier that the economic recovery program, in which 40 million pounds had been invested, would unlock opportunities for British companies, while supporting key growth sectors in Ukraine and broadening trade and investment opportunities.

Additionally, the TIGER (Triggering Investment Growth and Economic Resilience) program is due to be adopted in the long term to reduce the dependence of Ukrainian communities on humanitarian support and to increase their economic resilience.

"The latest pledges build on 12.8 billion pounds the UK has already given to Ukraine," the post said.

As reported, British Prime Minister Kier Starmer visited Kiev on Thursday.
