Lukashenko approves strategies of Belarus's participation in SCO, BRICS

MINSK. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has approved strategies of Belarus's participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS association of countries, Belarus's BelTA state news agency said with reference to the presidential office.

"A draft strategy of Belarus's participation in the SCO and a draft strategy of actions to exercise the Republic of Belarus's foreign policy within the framework of its participation in BRICS's activities were presented by the government to the head of state for consideration. Alexander Lukashenko approved both documents," it said.

Belarus became a full member of the SCO in summer 2024 and later was granted partner status in BRICS.

It is known that the approved strategy of Belarus's participation in the SCO determines conceptual avenues of the country's activity, goals and objectives of its participation in the SCO, and mechanisms of their implementation in the short and medium term.

"The strategy that concerns BRICS also determines priority areas of Belarus's interaction with the member states and partner states of this association," it said.

Both strategies are designed for a period of five years up to 2030 and may be extended, updated, or revised taking into account various trends, it said.
