Russia planning further development of relations with Armenia - Kremlin
MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - The Kremlin has expressed the readiness for further development of cooperation with Armenia in all areas, and said that the possible strategic partnership agreement between Armenia and the United States would do nothing but destabilize the situation in the South Caucasus.
"The United States has never played a particularly stabilizing role in the South Caucasus, one could even say the opposite. It is precisely in the context of these actions that the United States is trying in every possible way to pull more and more countries into its wake," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in comment on possible consequences of the Armenian-U.S. strategic partnership agreement at the request of journalists.
"Still, it is an absolutely sovereign right of our Armenian friends to develop relations in all directions. We continue to proceed from the main thing: we have our own bilateral relations with Armenia, we value these relations, and we intend to develop them further." Peskov said.
"Apart from bilateral aspects, our interaction in integration processes, including those within the EAEU, are obviously very important to us," he said.
"All of this constitutes cooperation that brings significant dividends to Armenia and its people. This is what we proceed from," Peskov said.
