Econ Minister Reshetnikov named co-chair of Russia-Ethiopia commission
MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order appointing Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov co-chairman of the Russian-Ethiopian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Trade and dismissing Federal Mineral Resources Agency head Yevgeny Petrov from this position, the ministry reported.
"Ethiopia is an important partner of Russia and one of the largest economies on the African continent. The increase of the level of the co-chairmanship on the Russian side reflects our interest in further developing Russian-Ethiopian relations and filling the agenda of bilateral cooperation with real economic content," Deputy Economic Development Minister Vladimir Ilyichev said in the press release.
He said the intergovernmental commission, which was established in 1995, discusses issues concerning bilateral cooperation in the areas of geology, resource use, energy, industry, agriculture, education and so on.
The main areas and projects of bilateral cooperation are laid out in a medium-term program for the development of trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. The document covers areas of the economy such as the oil and gas industry, electricity, geology and natural resources, manufacturing, water management and irrigation, land development, agriculture, healthcare and training of workers.
