U.S. new sanctions on Russia to be retaliated - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Moscow intends to react to Washington's imposition of new sanctions on the Russian energy sector, Russia will remain a reliable actor on the global fuel market, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Telegram on Saturday.

"Certainly, Washington's hostile actions will not remain without a reaction and will be taken into account when building our foreign-economic strategy," the statement said.

"[Russia] will continue to implement big national projects on oil and gas production and also import-substitution, to provide oilfield services and build NPPs [nuclear power plants] in third countries," it said. "Our country was and remains a key and reliable actor on the global fuel market," the statement said.

"Against the backdrop of Washington's bet on the 'strategic defeat of Moscow' and the strain of sanctions meant to undermine the Russian economy which, despite an unprecedented external pressure, has not only held up but continues to develop, the exertions of the outgoing White House team have the aim of making any bilateral economic ties as difficult as possible or impossible, including for U.S. business," the statement said.

The future U.S. president, "who cannot overturn said sanctions without Congress' approval, will be left with scorched earth, literally and figuratively," it said.
