Volodin represents Russia at Venezuelan president's inauguration, gives Maduro greetings from Putin
CARACAS. Jan 10 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Chairman has attended the inauguration ceremony of Nicolas Maduro, who has been elected president of Venezuela, in the Federal Legislative Palace in Caracas. Volodin is representing Russia on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In his speech, Maduro especially noted Volodin's arrival in Venezuela, calling him "a special envoy of the Russian president" and thanked him for visiting Caracas. At the end of the speech, Maduro and Volodin shook hands.
Volodin gave Maduro congratulations on his inauguration from Putin, the State Duma press service said.
Maduro has been elected president of Venezuela for the third time. His powers will last until 2031.
The presidential election was held in Venezuela on July 28, 2024. Maduro received 51.95% of the votes. State Duma members followed the voting process as international observers.
Russia, Bolivia, Honduras, Iran, China, Cuba, Nicaragua, and other states have congratulated Maduro on winning the election. Some countries, including the United States, have not recognized the president's reelection for his third term.
