Russian Sports Ministry sends contribution to WADA for 2023 in amount of 1.1 bln euros - Russian sports minister
MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - The Russian Sports Ministry in December sent an annual contribution to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for 2023 in an amount of more than 1.1 million euros; the funding is expected to be received in January, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev said.
"We sent a contribution for 2023 to WADA on December 19. It's more than 1.1 million euros. Bearing in mind the problems with international transactions, the receipt is expected in January. We are closely following the situation," Degtyarev was quoted as saying by the Sports Ministry press service on Thursday.
"As for payments for 2024. The amount of payments for European states to the WADA budget is calculated based on the mounts of their payments to the budget of the Council of Europe. Russia has left this organization, and the new formula is now being discussed," the minister said.
Russia will remain a supporter of uncompromising fight against medications that are prohibited in sport. "In this issue, we are allies of WADA and all other organizations that oppose this evil," Degtyarev said.
The Russian Sports Ministry earlier said the previous rules for forming contributions to WADA could not be applied to Russia as they are linked to the scale of contributions to the Council of Europe, which Russia left in 2022.
Russia is to pay annual contributions to WADA from 2023. The payment was made only partially in 2023.
