Kazakhstan to choose NPP consortium participants in H1 2025 - energy minister
ASTANA. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan will make a decision in the first half of 2025 regarding a composition of the consortium to build a nuclear power plant (NPP) on its territory, Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said.
"The decision will be made in the first half [of 2025]," Satkaliyev told journalists in Almaty in reply to the corresponding question.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said earlier that an international consortium should build the country's NPP. As reported, Kazakhstan will choose companies, technologies and contractors for the project in 2025.
Kazakhstan held a nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant on October 6. According to the Kazakh Central Elections Commission, Kazakh citizens voted for the project.
Kazakhstan is now considering technologies for large reactors from four suppliers - France, China, Russia, and South Korea. According to the Energy Ministry, the average cost of one reactor will be $5 billion.
