Baku, Ankara discuss defense cooperation, modernization of Azerbaijani Armed Forces based on Turkish model
BAKU. Dec 23 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov and Turkish Land Forces Commander Gen. Selcuk Bayraktaroglu have discussed regional security and modernization of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces based on the model of the Turkish Armed Forces.
"The minister particularly emphasized the role of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkey in maintaining peace and stability in the region," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.
The parties also discussed prospects for developing bilateral military and military education cooperation.
Col. Gen. Bahtiyar Ersay, a Turkish military commander and advisor to the Azerbaijani defense minister, also met with the Turkish delegation. "The meeting participants had an in-depth exchange of opinions on measures to align the Azerbaijani army with the model of the Turkish Armed Forces," it said.
