Rosatom launches 12 bln ruble hazardous waste recycling facility in Kurgan Region
KURGAN. Dec 23 (Interfax) - Rosatom Group put Russia's largest hazardous waste processing, recycling and disposal facility into pilot operation in Kurgan Region's Schuchansky district on Friday, the region's governor, Vadim Shumkov said.
"The amount of investment totals more than 12 billion rubles. About 500 jobs are being created," Shumkov said on his Telegram channel.
The Schuchye Ecotechnopark is a complex to process, recycle and dispose of Class I and II hazardous industrial waste and turn it into raw material suitable for reuse. The facility was built at a former chemical weapons disposal plant that is being refurbished by Rosatom's Federal Ecological Operator.
The park will process hazardous waste and then produce safe products from it, such as free-flowing material for solid domestic waste landfills, salt-sand mixes for de-icing roads, and chemical substances and components needed in industry.
The Schuchye park is one of seven facilities for processing Class I-II hazardous waste being built in Russia under the Environment national project.
