Captured Russian, Ukrainian servicemen to get Christmas parcels, letters from families - Russian ombudsman
MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - The Russian and Ukrainian human rights commissioners have exchanged parcels and letters for captured soldiers from their families, Russian ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova said in a statement on Telegram on Friday.
"In Belarus on December 20, the human rights commissioners of Russia and Ukraine each handed over [to the other] 1,500 Christmas parcels for Russian and Ukrainian captured servicemen, as well as letters from their families and friends, as part of a joint humanitarian action," the statement said.
The parcels contain warm clothes and foodstuffs, it said.
"The action was made possible with the assistance of the Russian presidential administration, Russia's Defense Ministry, Federal Penitentiary Service, Federal Security Service and Foreign Ministry, and the International Committee of the Red Cross," the statement said.
During their meeting, the ombudsmen discussed the lists that were handed over with names of captured soldiers and missing persons, and "further humanitarian interaction to help civilians, including establishing the whereabouts, family reunions, and mutual inmate visitations," the statement said.
