KazMunayGas, CNPC subsidiary studying new areas in western Kazakhstan for testing enhanced oil recovery technologies
ALMATY. Dec 19 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's national oil company KazMunayGas (KMG) and China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Company Ltd. (CNODC), a subsidiary of CNPC, are jointly exploring prospective petroleum reservoirs on the eastern edge of the Pre-Caspian Basin, KMG's press service said.
"As part of our collaboration with CNODC, we are assessing prospective petroleum reservoirs on the eastern edge of the Pre-Caspian Basin. Scientific and technical innovations aimed at enhancing oil recovery from low-yield and challenging oil and gas fields have been evaluated. Specific sites have been identified for the pilot testing of enhanced oil recovery technologies," it said.
In late October, KMG and CNODC signed a confidentiality agreement and developed a joint plan to evaluate the area's geological exploration potential.
KazMunayGas serves as Kazakhstan's national operator for the exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. It represents the state's strategic interests in the oil and gas industry.
CNPC is the largest Chinese oil and gas company, with 100% of its capital owned by the state.
