Moldova to receive U.S. grant totaling $80 mln to strengthen transport infrastructure
CHISINAU. Dec 19 (Interfax) - The United States will grant Moldova $80 million in non-repayable financial aid under an aid agreement between the governments of the respective countries, the press service of the Moldovan parliament said.
Members of the commission on foreign policy and European integration in the Moldovan parliament have approved the relevant amendment to the agreement with the U.S.
"The $80 million in funds are intended to strengthen the transport infrastructure and incentivize trade with Ukraine. The funds will also be invested to construct expanded parking lots for trucks near the borders to facilitate managing traffic flows at the border. There are also plans to allocate financial resources to protect critical networks from cyber-attacks," the press service said.
Total financial support under the aid agreement will ultimately exceed $512.4 million.
The respective parties in 2016 signed the agreement between the governments of Moldova and the United States on development assistance and sustainable economic growth based on European integration.
