European Commission pays Ukraine 4.1 billion euros

BRUSSELS. Dec 18 (Interfax) - The European Commission has announced paying the next tranche of macrofinancial assistance totaling 4.1 billion euros to Kiev on Wednesday.

"This brings to 16.1 billion euros the total EU funding disbursed to the Ukrainian government under the [Ukraine] Facility so far," the European Commission said in a statement.

After Ukraine's request for payment, the Council of the European Union approved the European Commission's evaluation of Kiev's satisfactory attainment of the reform targets necessary for the regular quarterly payment, the statement said.

These reforms cover the business environment, the labor market, the regional policy, the energy market, the environmental protection, and countering corruption, it said. They are envisaged by the plan for Ukraine.

Up to 50 billion euros in the form of grants and loans are to be allocated from the EU's Ukrainian Facility in 2024-2027 to support the country's efforts to maintain its macrofinancial stability and facilitate its long-term recovery, as well as recovery and modernizing during the implementation of the key structural reforms for progressing towards the EU accession.
