Russia should export 8.5 bln kWh of electricity in 2024, import around 1.8 bln kWh - Inter RAO
MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Russia should export 8.5 billion kWh of electricity in 2024 and import around 1.8 billion kWh, Inter RAO management board member Alexandra Panina told reporters on the sidelines of the Russian Renewable Energy conference.
Panina said that Kazakhstan leads in terms of supply volumes.
"These are decent volumes, slightly lower than last year's figures, but exactly one country lower is China. We supplied about 3.1 billion kWh to China last year and this should be 900 million kWh this year," Panina said.
"The situation has not improved, especially since it remains quite tense in winter, so we have the minimum supply that could be, and which could be reduced to zero at any moment," Panina said about the situation with supplies to China.
Inter RAO has also received a response from Azerbaijan and Georgia about the possibility to supply electricity to Russia.
"Azerbaijan has said that it could provide emergency assistance totaling 250-300 MW. Georgia has said that it would take decisions depending on the situation," Panina said.
"There have been, from Azerbaijan," she said in response to whether there had already been supplies this year.
Inter RAO is pleased with the results for 2024 in terms of export-import operations, and the company is exceeding the business plan in this area, Panina said.
Inter RAO is Russia's only electricity importer and exporter.
Rosneftegaz was the principal shareholder of Inter RAO with 26.37% as at the end of 2023, and Inter RAO Capital held 29.56%. Federal Grid Company-Rosseti, formerly FGC UES and now merged with PJSC Rosseti , owned 8.57% as at the end of 2021, and the free float was 34.24%.
