Cargo transportation via TITR up 63% to 4.1 mln tonnes in 11M - Kazakh govt

ASTANA. Dec 17 (Interfax) - Cargo transportation through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) rose 63% year-on-year in January-November 2024, the Kazakh government press service said.

"The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route continues to demonstrate steady growth, with its throughput capacity reaching 6 million tonnes a year, including 100,000 TEU containers. In the 11 months, TITR freight traffic grew 63% to 4.1 million tonnes, and container traffic 2.6-fold 50,500 TEU containers," the press release says.

A coordination center for development and expansion of the TITR's infrastructure was created earlier this year. The center is also tasked with increasing the competitiveness of the TITR and reducing the delivery time between Europe and Asia to 15 days, according to the press release.

The partners of the expansion project include Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, China and other countries.

TITR is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor. The annual throughput capacity of the route is expected to reach 10 million tonnes of cargoes in 2025.
