Belarus intends to expand collaboration with Hungary in area of nuclear energy
MINSK. Dec 11 (Interfax) - Belarus expects to expand collaboration with Hungary in the area of nuclear energy, the press service of Belarus' Energy Ministry said.
As noted, Hungary hosted the latest meeting of the Belarus-Hungary working group for collaboration in the area of nuclear energy on December 9-10.
"Belarus-Hungary collaboration overall in the area of nuclear energy has been expanding gradually. The exchange of experience is carried out on key issues in the industry, namely operating nuclear power plants, developing nuclear infrastructure, training personnel, and scheduling maintenance work," according to the press release following Belarusian Ambassador to Hungary Vladimir Ulakhovich's meeting with the participants of the bilateral working group.
In this regard, the Belarusian side notes "significant potential for further development of bilateral relations".
As part of the working group meeting, Belarus' specialists studied Hungary's experience in the area of radioactive waste management, familiarized themselves with technologies in this area, including disposal, and visited the final isolation facility for radioactive waste in Bataapati.
The meeting participants also visited the temporary storage facility for spent nuclear fuel at the Paks nuclear power plant.
"As part of the planned construction of a radioactive waste disposal facility in Belarus, considerable attention is being paid to studying international experience, existing technologies for handling it, and best practices. Interaction with Hungary's experts is another step in this direction," the press service said.
