Russia's FESCO launches direct sea shipping route from Vladivostok to Shanghai

VLADIVOSTOK. Dec 9 (Interfax) - FESCO Transportation Group, the flagship of which is the Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) , has launched the regular sea route FESCO China Direct Line-5 (FCDL-5), which directly connects Shanghai to the group's Commercial Port of Vladivostok.

The first vessel departed from the port along the FCDL-5 route on December 7 and is expected to arrive in China on December 10, FESCO said.

Two container ships from FESCO's fleet with a total capacity of around 3,200 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) will provide services on the route.

Transit time on the route is three days. Ships depart once a week.

Previously, FESCO operated voyages from Vladivostok to Shanghai via the FESCO China Express-3 route, which also covered other Chinese ports - Nansha, Yantian, Shantou, Xiamen, Wenzhou and Ningbo.

"However, due to increased demand from clients, the group decided to establish a direct connection between Vladivostok Commercial Sea Port and Shanghai, thereby increasing the number of regular voyages to China's largest container port," FESCO said.

With the launch of FCDL-5, FESCO's weekly fleet capacity between Chinese ports and Vladivostok will reach 6,000 TEUs, up 39% compared to the beginning of 2024.

The group will soon rename the FESCO China Express service and all its associated maritime routes to FESCO China Direct Line.

FESCO, which is under the Rosatom state corporation's control, owns assets in the port, railway and integrated logistics business. FESCO owns PJSC Commercial Port of Vladivostok , the Fesco Integrated Transport intermodal operator, the Dalreftrans refrigerated container operator, as well as the Transgarant and Fesco Trans companies.

The group manages terminal complexes in Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk, Tomsk and Vladivostok. It oversees a container fleet of more than 180,000 TEU and nearly 15,000 flatcars. Its fleet includes over 30 vessels which primarily operate on its own shipping lines. In November 2023, a 92.5% controlling stake in FESCO was transferred to Rosatom by presidential decree.
