Poland's PERN restores operating capacity of Druzhba oil pipeline branch following reported leak

MOSCOW. Dec 9 (Interfax) - Poland's PERN restored the damaged section of the Druzhba oil pipeline to normal operating capacity on Saturday afternoon, the pipeline operator said.

"PERN has restored the normal operating capacity of the first line of the western oil pipeline after the accident on December 1, 2024, in Pniewy," PERN said in a statement.

PERN previously reported that an oil leak had been detected on a section of the northern Druzhba pipeline that runs through Belarus, Poland, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania. The pipeline was damaged near the town of Pniewy, Poland.

As noted, the causes of the incident are still unknown and will be investigated by PERN's in-house committee.

Poland has continued supplying oil to the Schwedt refinery in Germany through one of the two branches of the system. Russia's Transneft pipeline operator has said that it was pumping oil through the Druzhba pipeline toward Belarus on schedule.
