Russia bans tangerine imports from Abkhazia - acting PM

SUKHUM. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Russia has banned imports of tangerines from Abkhazia.

"Yes, the Russian side has banned imports of tangerines from Abkhazia, referencing a decision of its public health services," Acting Abkhaz Prime Minister Valery Bganba told Interfax on Friday.

"Abkhazia's public health services refute [claims that] there are harmful flies in citrus fruit," he said.

"Usually this fly is found on the Russian side on the eve of early elections in Abkhazia. Unfortunately, this measure will affect the poorest segments of the population, who survive on their crops," Bganba said.
