Russian film festival to be held in France

MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - A Russian film festival will be held in Paris, Menton and Frejus on December 10-14, and six films will be screened, the Roskino press service said.

"Films from Russia will be screened in the festive pre-Christmas atmosphere at the Russian Spiritual and Cultural Orthodox Center in Paris (December 10-12) and on Cote d'Azur: at one of the oldest cinemas in France, Eden, in Menton (December 12-14) and at the Le Vox cinema in Frejus (December 12-14)", the press service said.

"The French public has always been interested in Russian culture, including Soviet and Russian films," the press service quoted Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova as saying.

The Russian film festival will be held in France for the second year in a row, Roskino General Director Elza Antonova said. "Whereas last year's program emphasized contemporary art-house films, this festival, held on the eve of Catholic Christmas and New Year, will mostly present family films about travel, adventures, family relationships, and dreams coming true. We also invite all residents and guests of Paris to an exhibition of posters for films presented on the French market in Soviet times. Such an excursion into history, coupled with screenings of contemporary films, will give a more holistic perception of Russian cinema," she said.
