Belarus, Lithuania to stop customs cooperation on May 27, 2025 - Belarusian State Customs Committee
MINSK. Dec 4 (Interfax) - The Belarusian-Lithuanian customs cooperation agreement will be terminated on May 27, 2025, the Belarusian State Customs Committee said.
"The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry has notified the Belarusian embassy to Lithuania about denouncing the customs cooperation agreement," the committee said.
The agreement, which has been regulating customs relations between Belarus and Lithuania for almost 20 years, will expire on May 27, 2025, it said.
"Please note that the document concerns interaction in multiple areas, from customs control and information exchange to joint operations against trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances," the committee said.
Lithuania de facto stopped cooperating with Belarus 2.5 years ago. In turn, the Belarusian customs kept offering cooperation options, which, however, were ignored by Lithuania, it said.
"Obviously, the position is formulated not by the border authorities but by Lithuanian politicians who do not want our states to interact," the committee said.
Only two checkpoints are functioning at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, and there are always long lines of vehicles at both.
Even now, the Belarusian customs stays ready for an open and equal dialogue on customs issues, the committee said.
