Azerbaijan's state oil company starts supplying natural gas to Slovakia

MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax) - The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) began supplying natural gas to Slovakia on Sunday, SOCAR said.

"SOCAR began supplying gas to Slovakia's largest state energy supplier, SPP, on December 1. The gas is being supplied as part of cooperation between SOCAR and SPP based on a short-term pilot contract," the company said.

The terms and conditions of the short-term agreement have not been disclosed, including the volumes of supplies and the cost.

"SOCAR continues to diversify its export destinations thanks to these gas supplies. Consequently, Slovakia has become the twelfth country receiving Azerbaijani gas along with Turkey, Georgia, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, and North Macedonia," according to the statement.

SOCAR also said that it seeks to develop a long-term energy partnership with SPP.

As reported, SOCAR and SPP on November 12, 2024, signed a short-term pilot contract to supply natural gas.

"Following a successful assessment of cooperation, the company will consider the possibility of concluding a gas supply contract for a longer period," SPP said in a press release following the signing.

Azerbaijan's gas exports are projected to total 25 billion cubic meters in 2024, with 12.5 bcm planned to be supplied to Europe.
