Ukraine to open new checkpoint at border with Romania next year

MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The Belaya Tserkov - Sighetu Marmatiei checkpoint will open at the Ukrainian-Romanian border for trucks in 2025, Ukrainian media said, citing head of the Ukrainian State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure Sergei Sukhomlin.

"We are opening the Belaya Tserkov checkpoint next year. [...] It is at the border with Romania, and trucks will be using it, as well. We are opening it with temporary infrastructure (trailers). [...] Our main goal is to provide a passage," Sukhomlin said.

Empty trucks will start passing through the Luzhanka - Beregsurany checkpoint at the border with Hungary next week, and the checkpoint's capacity will be enlarged eventually, he said.

A government decision to hand over another three checkpoints at the border with Poland to the agency is pending, Sukhomlin said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian government announced opening the Belaya Tserkov - Sighetu Marmatiei checkpoint, as the ninth checkpoint at the border with Romania.
