Russia discusses prospects for joint space projects with BRICS members - Roscosmos

MOSCOW. Nov 26 (Interfax) - Cooperation prospects and joint space projects of BRICS members have been discussed at a conference in Moscow, Roscosmos said on Tuesday.

"Given the growing number of BRICS members, evaluating the aggregate scientific, technological, manufacturing and personnel potential, the areas of mutual interest in research and peaceful uses of outer space, and applied uses of space activity deliverables was an important topic of the discussion," Roscosmos said.

More than 40 representatives of space agencies from nine BRICS members attended the conference in Moscow, it said.

Roscosmos head Yury Borisov noted "the efficiency of the joint work on space projects," Roscosmos said.

"The joint implementation of large sectoral and scientific projects forges technological alliances for the search, development and use of innovative solutions, products and services," Roscosmos quoted Borisov as saying.

"A thematic session on the Earth's remote sensing finalized the discussion," it said.

Borisov said on May 23 that Russia had offered BRICS members to set up a space council, which will serve as an advisory body and coordinate joint projects.

He said on July 27, 2023, that BRICS states had agreed to develop the exchange of remote sensing data. According to Roscosmos, the heads of BRICS space agencies signed an agreement on cooperating in the exchange of remote sensing satellite data on August 18, 2021.

BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
