Ukrainian farmers harvest 71.4 mln tonnes of grains, oilseeds - Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry
MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers harvested 71.4 million tonnes of new grain and oilseed crops from 19.2 million hectares of farmland as of November 8, compared to 68.9 million tonnes from 18.9 million hectares a week before.
In particular, they harvested 52.1 million tonnes of grain crops (49.9 million tonnes a week before) and 19.3 million tonnes of oilseeds (19.0 million tonnes), Ukrainian media reported citing the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry on Friday.
Farmers have finished harvesting wheat, barley, peas, and rapeseed, gathering 22.3 million tonnes of wheat from 4.9 million hectares, with a yield of 4.24 tonnes per hectare, 5.6 million tonnes of barley from 1.4 million hectares with a yield of 3.92 tonnes per hectare, 470,400 tonnes of peas from 212,200 hectares with a yield of 2.19 tonnes per hectare, and 3.5 million tonnes of rapeseed from 1.3 million hectares with a yield of 2.73 tonnes per hectare, it said.
They also harvested 22.4 million tonnes of corn (20.2 million tonnes a week before) from 3.5 million hectares (88% of the target), 127,200 tonnes of buckwheat (126,900 tonnes) from 87,800 hectares (99%), and 161,000 tonnes of millets (160,300 tonnes) from 88,100 hectares (95%).
Farmers in 16 regions across Ukraine also harvested 11.4 million tonnes of sugar beets from 238,100 hectares (92% of the target).
The largest amounts of grain crops were harvested in the Odessa region (4.6 million tonnes), the Chernigov region (4.2 million tonnes), and the Poltava region (4.1 million tonnes).
The highest crop yield was achieved in the Khmelnitsky region (7.69 tonnes per hectare), the Chernigov region (6.91 tonnes per hectare), and the Ternopol region (6.69 tonnes per hectare).
