Ukrainian farmers sow over 6 mln ha of winter crops - Agrarian Policy Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers have sown over 6 million hectares of winter crops as of November 12 compared to 5.98 million ha last week, Ukrainian media quoted the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service as saying.

Nearly 4.9 million ha have been sown with winter grains, which accounts for 96% of the forecast, the statement said. In particular, winter wheat is sown on 4.4 million ha (a week earlier this figure was 4.3 million ha), which is 97% of the projected area under the crop, barley on 577,800 ha (543,600 ha) and 90%, rye on 68,100 ha (67,900 ha) and 97%, rapeseed on 1.08 million ha (1.07 million ha) and 96%.

The farmers of 14 Ukrainian regions have completed sowing of winter grains, and 12 regions of winter rapeseed.

The farmers in the Odessa region are leading in terms of sowing winter grain crops with 710,000 ha, Dnepropetrovsk region with 528,000 ha and Nikolayev region with 503,100 ha, it said.

As of November 14 last year, 5.7 million ha of winter crops were sown across Ukraine, wheat was sown on 3.968 million ha, barley on 469,000 ha, rye on 77,000 ha, and rapeseed on 1.151 million ha.
