Russia supplies medicines worth $72 mln to Africa in 2023

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax) - Russian pharmaceutical companies supply medicines and critical medical goods to over 150 countries, Russian Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Yekaterina Priyezzheva said.

"The Russian pharmaceutical industry not just meets most of the domestic market's demand but is also clearly oriented at exports and has a vast export potential. Products of our manufacturers are supplied to over 150 states, and we are ready to expand this cooperation with our foreign partners," Priyezzheva said at the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi on Saturday.

In 2023, Russia supplied over $72 million worth of pharmaceutical products to Africa. The main buyers of Russian drugs are Nigeria, Uganda, Algeria, Congo and Morocco. The chief products are yellow fever vaccine, drugs for the prevention of infectious diseases, and antiviral and antibacterial drugs.

Russian manufacturers can offer the most innovative drugs to the partners, including cancer, diabetic, cardiovascular, antimicrobial, antiviral drugs, as well as vital medical products and modern technical rehabilitation equipment, Priyezzheva said.

The Russian industry can offer cooperation in neonatal equipment, she said. Russia makes incubators for newborns' ICU.
