Ukrainian regions to approve energy independence passports by yearend - Ukrenergo
MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax) - All Ukrainian regions must approve and present their energy independence passports by the end of this year, indicating the generation capacity they need for sustainable power supply, acting Ukrenergo CEO Alexei Brekht said.
"All regions are preparing energy independence passports. This document is being prepared so that each region understands one simple thing: the population and critical infrastructure facilities in this region must be provided with their own power sources," Ukrainian media quoted Brecht in a statement posted by Ukrenergo on a social network following the Kiev International Economic Forum.
In order to prepare the documents, Ukrenergo has defined the "ideal energy mix" for energy sector development in each region, taking into account their needs and capabilities, and has provided all the necessary information to determine the types of generation facilities and the feasibility of installing them, Brekht said.
"Fifty per cent of this ideal energy mix should be produced by renewable energy sources. Approximately 20-25% is peak guaranteed capacity. Another 10-15% is energy storage facilities," he said, adding that the plans must be finalized and presented to domestic and foreign businesses in early December.
