EAEU countries increase sugar production 1.5% to almost 4.1 mln tonnes by Nov 5 - industry association
MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) produced 4.061 million tonnes of sugar from the new harvest by November 5, up 1.5% year-on-year from 4.006 million tonnes by November 5, 2023, the Eurasian Sugar Association said.
Sugar beet is currently processed at 66 factories, 57 of which are located in Russia, 4 in Belarus, 3 in Kazakhstan and 2 in Kyrgyzstan. Eight sugar factories in Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories had finished the season by November 5.
Russia produced 3.706 million tonnes of sugar, 36,000 tonnes more than last year. Belarus increased production by 12,400 tonnes to 296,200 tonnes and Kazakhstan by 5,300 tonnes to 20,800 tonnes. Factories in Kyrgyzstan produced 38,300 tonnes of sugar compared to 36,900 tonnes by November 5, 2023.
EAEU countries produced 7.28 million tonnes of sugar in 2023, the highest figure in four years. Production totaled 6.54 million tonnes in 2022.
