Ukraine's int'l partners deliver first of four gas-piston cogeneration units to Odessa - Energy Ministry
MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Odessa has received the first of the four gas-piston cogeneration units that are to be installed in the city under a project implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with financing provided by the Japanese, Norwegian, and Swedish governments, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Energy Ministry.
Once all the four such units are installed in Odessa, they should cover 45% of the energy needs of the city's critical infrastructure, the ministry said in a statement on its website on Wednesday.
Jaco Cilliers, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, said that fuel consumption could be reduced by up to 40% for each unit by positioning them "directly where energy is needed."
"This initiative marks a crucial step in decentralizing and strengthening Odessa's energy infrastructure. Through the Green Energy Recovery Program, UNDP will continue working alongside partners to rebuild and enhance essential services in Odessa, reinforcing resilience and promoting sustainable energy solutions," the statement quoted Cilliers as saying.
