Ukrainian ports' freight traffic increases 1.7 times in 10 months
MOSCOW. Nov 5 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian ports have handled 1.78 times more of cargo in January-October 2024 year-on-year up to 82.1 million tonnes, having received 5.2 billion hryvni in revenue and 2.2 billion hryvni in net profit for this period.
According to current reports for January-October 2024, Ukrainian seaports handled 82.1 million tonnes of cargo, while 46.1 million tonnes year-on-year, which is 1.78 times less than the current figure, Ukrainian media reported, quoting the state-run Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority's press service as saying on social media.
The agricultural cargo handling reached 50.7 million tonnes in nine months.
The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority's income for this period totaled 5.2 billion hryvni, while its net profit 2.2 billion hryvni. In total, 3.1 billion hryvni will be paid to the state budget, the statement said.
The company "has achieved a high level of protecting critical infrastructure facilities and its elements up to 95% in each of Ukraine's ports," it said.
"All the branches are 100% provided with alternative power sources, which guarantees uninterrupted operation of the ports. There has not been a single case of disrupting port operations in 2023-2024," it said.
It is also reported that the ports in the Danube region remain a reliable alternative route for Ukrainian exports and critical imports, provide steady operations of logistics routes vital to the Ukrainian economy.
As previously reported, based on the Sea Ports Authority's current data, Ukrainian seaports handled 74 million tonnes of cargo from January to September 2024, while over the same period last year, 41.1 million tonnes of cargo was transshipped.
