Russia still importing butter from South America, but supplies have decreased - watchdog

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Russia continues to import butter from South America, but supplies have decreased in recent years, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said, refuting reports by a number of Telegram channels that the supplies had come to an end.

"Butter imports from South America to Russia were at their highest in 2014, when about 25,000 tonnes were delivered," the watchdog said. "This year, according to the Federal State Veterinary Medicine Information System, 2,800 tonnes of butter have been imported as of November 2," it said.

"The reduction in import volumes might be due to transport and logistics problems, sanctions and the absence of agreements between businesses," it said.
