UNICEF to disburse 290,000 hryvni to each of 700 Ukrainian schools for winter preparations
MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The UNICEF will disburse 203.35 million hryvni to 700 Ukrainian schools starting from November, so that they prepare for the winter season and upgrade their canteens, Ukrainian media said, citing the Education and Science Ministry.
"The joint goal of the government and donors is to ensure continuity of education and create comfortable conditions for learning, especially in winter, by strengthening schools. When distributing funds, the commission emphasized the need to cover as many communities in each region as possible. This made it possible to provide support not only to large communities, but also to smaller settlements," the ministry said in a statement.
While preparing for the winter season, the schools can use funds for heating, insulation and replacement of windows and doors, as well as procurement, installation and repair of electrical and heat-generating equipment, repair of utility networks (water, heating, electrical, ventilation, and sewer), and transportation and storage of purchased equipment, spare parts, materials and fuel, it said.
Some of the funds, up to 83,000 hryvni, could be spent on repairs and upgrade of school canteens, it said.
"This is a one-off donation. The funds will be transferred to the accounts of listed schools starting from late November 2024," the statement said.
