European electrical power transmission system operators promise to increase export for Ukraine, Moldova
BRUSSELS. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The electrical power export capacities for Ukraine and Moldova from the neighboring EU countries can be increased for the winter the European Commission said, citing the transmission system operators (TSO) of continental Europe.
"Based on a joint assessment of the power system conditions, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for electricity (ENTSO-E) announced today that the export limit can be increased from 1700 MW to 2100 MW from December 1, while still ensuring power system stability and operational security," the European Commission said in a communique published on Monday.
"Today's announcement is a further sign of the strong support that the EU is offering Ukraine and Moldova, and the solidarity of the European TSO community," Kadri Simson, European commissioner for energy, said.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a joint press conference with International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol in Brussels on September 19 that in order to Ukraine maintain the resilience of its power generating infrastructure in the upcoming winter, the European Union is proposing action in three areas, i.e. "repair, connect, and stabilize."
"The objective is to address the immediate needs of the population while we make Ukraine's energy system more resilient in the long term," von der Leyen then.
