Ukraine sows 5.7 mln ha of winter crops for 2025 harvest - Agrarian Policy Ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers have sown 5.7 million hectares of winter crops as of October 22, compared to 5.4 million ha as of last week, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food's press service.
Winter grains are sown in all regions, the statement said. Overall, they have already been sown on nearly 4.7 million ha, which is 90% of the forecast. In particular, winter wheat is sown on 4.1 million ha (this figure was 3.8 million ha a week earlier), which is 92% of the projected area under the crop, barley on 486,100 ha (421,300 ha) and 76%, rye on 66,000 ha (62,500 ha) and 94%, rapeseeds on 1.05 million ha (1.048 million ha) and 94%, respectively.
The farmers of the Volyn, Poltava, Rovno, Ternopol and Chernigov regions have completed sowing of winter grain crops. Farmers of 12 regions have finished sowing winter rapeseeds.
The farmers in the Nikolayev region are leading in terms of the area under winter crops sown on 503,100 ha (100,5%), followed by the Zaporozhye region with 100,800 ha (99,9%), and the Khmelnitsky region with 238,800 ha (99,5%), it said.
As of the same date a year earlier, 5.4 million ha of winter crops were sown in Ukraine, wheat was sown on 3.733 million ha, barley on 403,000 ha, rye on 76,000 ha, and rapeseeds on 1.142 million ha.
