Elections in Uzbekistan recognized valid - CEC
TASHKENT. Oct 28 (Interfax) - Over 47.62% of voters have voted in the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan by 1 p.m., Uzbek Central Elections Commission (CEC) Deputy Chairman Bakhrov Kuchkarov said on Sunday.
"A total of 9,498,589 voters, or 47.62% of the listed voters, came to polling stations as of 1 p.m.," Kuchkarov said.
The elections were therefore recognized as valid, because in accordance with the Uzbek legislation, 33% of registered voters need to vote in the elections for them to be declared valid.
Elections to the Legislative Chamber, the lower house of the Oliy Majlis, the Uzbek parliament, and local kengashs (councils) were taking place in Uzbekistan on Sunday.
