Ukraine sows 5.4 mln hectares of winter crops for 2025 harvest
MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers have sown 5.4 million hectares of winter crops as of October 22, compared to 4.75 million hectares in the previous week, Ukrainian media said, citing the press service for the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.
Winter crops are being sown in all regions, the media said, adding that almost 4.3 million hectares have been sown with crops to date. In particular, winter wheat was sown on 3.8 million hectares (versus 3.3 million hectares a week earlier), in addition to barley sown on 421,300 hectares (331,700 hectares), rye sown on 62,500 hectares (51,600 hectares), and rapeseed sown on 1.048 million hectares (1,000 hectares).
The leaders in sowing winter grains are farmers in the Volyn region, who sowed crops on 161,100 hectares (97.3%), Chernigov - 193,200 hectares (97.2%) and Poltava - 238,200 hectares (95.8%), the ministry said. Farmers have completed sowing winter rapeseed in 11 regions.
As of the same date a year earlier, 4.985 million hectares were sown with winter crops in Ukraine, including 3.456 million hectares with wheat, 322,000 hectares with barley, 71,000 hectares with rye, and 1.136 million hectares with rapeseed.
