Ukrenergo expecting electricity import capacity to increase next week

MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Ukrenergo is awaiting a decision of system operators of the ENTSO-E European continental network to increase the interstate cross-section capacity for electricity import, which currently stands at 1.7 GW, as early as next week, acting Ukrenergo Board Chairman Alexei Brekht said.

"The final approvals and calculations are being completed, and we will indeed have a corresponding increase next week," Ukrainian media cited Brekht as saying at the Energy Day 2024 industry event of the European Business Association.

In his words, the European colleagues plan further increase of the capacity after making this decision.

"Both the ENTSO-E head and the network supervisory board chairperson clearly supported Ukraine's effort to increase the import capacity last week," Brekht said.

He said earlier that negotiations with ENTSO-E were underway to increase the import capacity at least to 2GW yet a decision to reach the technical maximum of 2.2GW was not ruled out either.
