Rosatom to finish designing floating nuclear plant based on RITM-200M by year's end
MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Rosatom plans to finish designing a floating nuclear power plant with two RITM-200M reactors for foreign projects this year, the Russian state corporation's CEO, Alexei Likhachev said at a IAEA conference on small reactors.
"For the foreign market, this year we are completing the design of a floating generating unit with two RITM-200M series reactors with combined power capacity of up to 100 MW," Likhachev said.
He said Rosatom is offering potential partners a "nuclear battery" business model. "This means that the customer only buys electricity from us. The owner and operator of the floating generating units will be state corporation Rosatom," Likhachev said.
He also mentioned a line of "micro reactors" with capacity of up to 10 MW. The company plans to put such a Shelf-M reactor into operation by 2030.
"Essentially, this is a capsule that can be delivered to the required location and connected to the local grid. And we already have an industrial customer for this project," Likhachev said.
There were plans to install such a plant near the Sovinoye deposit in Chukotka. Rosatom also plans to build such a nuclear plant with a Shelf-M reactor in Yakutia and put it into operation in 2030.
The website of Rosatom division Atomenergomash (AEM) states that the RITM-200 reactor "is the basis for construction of stationary and transportable small-capacity nuclear power plants, including floating generating units."
