Maersk launches weekly feeder service to Ukraine's Chernomorsk

MOSCOW. Oct 18 (Interfax) - The world's leading container carrier Maersk Group (MSC) has launched a feeder service to Ukraine's Port of Chernomorsk, Ukrainian media reported citing the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine (AIFFU).

The first vessel as part of this service set sail from the Port Said hub on October 16 and is due to arrive at Port of Chernomorsk on October 22.

"The feeder service significantly reduces the transit time to and from Chernomorsk, compared to the barge service between Constanta and Chernomorsk," AIFFU said.

Starting November 1, Maersk will revise terminal handling tariffs, origin (OHC) and destination (DHC) services, for all containers from/to Chernomorsk, Ukraine, the carrier said on its website.

Feeder service involves the use of small container ships, known as feeder vessels, or feeders, designed to transport cargo between small regional ports and large container shipping hubs.
