European Commission president gives her support to Zelensky's peace plan
BRUSSELS. Oct 18 (Interfax) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced her support for the aspects of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's peace plan that fall within her remit.
"Yes, of course, we are supporting the victory plan of President Zelensky. Although it's not for me to judge on NATO accession. The fields where the competencies will support from our side," von der Leyen said in reply to the corresponding question at a press conference in Brussels on Thursday evening after a European Council meeting.
In turn, European Council President Charles Michel, who also attended the press conference, said that the presentation of Zelensky's plan at the EU summit shed more light on "the Ukrainians' urgent needs, especially military and financial ones." This plan is already useful as it clarifies what hardware and financing is needed urgently, Michel said.
The European Council meeting started on Thursday morning with Zelensky's presentation of his five-point peace plan to the leaders of EU countries and institutions.
