"As part of its World Academic Summit, the British ranking agency Times Higher Education published the results of one of the most influential rankings of the world's universities. A total of 2,095 institutions from 115 countries were assessed. This year, the ranking includes a record of 17 Ukrainian universities from Dnepr, Ivano-Frankovsk, Kiev, Lvov, Odessa, Sumy, Uzhgorod, Kharkov, and Chernovtsy. The number of Ukrainian universities that applied to be ranked also hit a record of 55 this time around, which is one-third more than last year," the ministry said.

Sumy State University was ranked highest among Ukrainian universities and included in the 801-1000 group of the world's best universities.

All the other ranked Ukrainian universities were included in the 1,501+ group, it said.

In particular, for the first time ever, the ranking includes the Bogomolets National Medical University, the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University, and the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.

The methodology applied by the Times Higher Education includes 18 carefully calibrated indicators to assess institutions across five key areas, i.e. teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook, the ministry said.

"On the whole, analysts from the Times Higher Education reviewed 157 million citations and 18 million research publications from the Scopus database. They also interviewed over 93,000 scholars from around the world as part of their own reputational surveys," it said.

As reported, the annual Impact Rankings by the Times Higher Education included six Ukrainian universities among 1,000 of the most sustainable universities in 2023.
