Ukraine's DTEK plans to invest UAH 11 bln in winter preparations by year's end

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - DTEK Energo has invested UAH 8.3 billion in repair, rebuilding of thermal power plants and coal mining since the beginning of 2024 in preparation for the heating season and it is planning to bring the final figure to UAH 11 billion by the end of the year.

"Thanks to mobilizing all available resources, we have completed all of our plans by 100%. For this purpose, we have already invested more than UAH 8 billion in winter preparations since the beginning of the year, and it will be over UAH 11 billion by the end of the year," Ukrainian media quoted DTEK Energo CEO Alexander Fomenko as saying in a statement released by the energy holding company.

In particular, the company has invested UAH 2.3 billion in repair and rebuilding of TPPs since the beginning of 2024. This investment will reach UAH 3.8 billion by the end of the year. At the same time, round-the-clock restoration efforts will be ongoing during the winter and in the following years.

Meanwhile, the company's investment in Ukrainian coal mining totaled UAH 6 billion in the first nine months of this year. The company is planning to increase them to UAH 7.7 billion by the end of 2024. The company's miners have put 16 new coal faces into operation since the beginning of this year, and another nine are expected to be brought into operation by the end of the year.

The power holding's machine builders have also produced and repaired 982 pieces of mining equipment over the nine months. The core products include 10 new tunneling and cleaning combines. Machine builders also met the needs of miners with some 758,000 spare parts and components.

As reported, DTEK said on October 15 that it had completed all scheduled works before the start of the 2024-2025 heating season.

DTEK Energo provides a closed cycle of generating electricity from coal. The installed capacity at thermal power generating facilities stood at 13.3 GW as of January 2022. A full production cycle has been established in coal mining, including coal extraction and preparation, machine building and maintenance of mining equipment.
