China Datang starts building solar power plant in Uzbekistan, China Energy begins work on energy storage systems

TASHKENT. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Projects for building a solar power plant and energy storage systems involving Chinese companies have been launched in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan.

A solar power plant valued at $240 million will be built together with China Datang in the Boka district, the presidential press service said. It will produce 576 million kWh of electricity a year.

Two energy storage systems with a capacity of 200 MW and costing $220 million will be built in the Parkent and Piskent districts together with China Energy Overseas Investment. They will help to avert power cuts during peak hours and provide consumers with a reliable electricity supply.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inaugurated the start of construction. He also took part in the launch ceremony for three small hydroelectric power stations in the Tashkent region.

During the ceremony, two small HPPs with a capacity of 2.5 MW were commissioned in the Akhangaran district and the Ugam HPP with a capacity of 1.5 MW was commissioned in the Bostanlyk district. "These facilities will produce 18.4 million kWh of 'green' energy a year and provide electricity to 7,600 households," the press service said.

Mirziyoyev also inaugurated the launch of a number of other projects.

The Great Silk Road industrial technology park with investment of $1 billion will be built on 227 hectares in Almalyk in the Tashkent region. Around 100 enterprises will be located there, working in such fields as electrical engineering, textiles, building materials and pharmaceuticals. A total of 3,000 new jobs will be created and the park's output will be 5 trillion sum or $390 million a year. Its export potential is estimated at $300 million.

An industrial textile park will be built on 69 ha in the Yuqorichirchiq district with investment standing at $350 million. More than 20 enterprises will be located there and will produce yarn, dyed fabric and finished textile products.

A total of $1 billion was invested in the Tashkent region in 2023, the press service said. The number of enterprises with foreign capital stood at 1,700.

Work is currently ongoing on 91 foreign investment projects worth $20.3 billion and 28 Uzbek investment projects worth $4.5 billion.
